Edit Horsedrawn Firefighters
From the fire officers' glum expressions, the new wave of technology appearing in Glasgow's fire stations in the early 1900s wasn't to everyone's taste.
This picture was taken at Hillhead Fire Station when the first motorised tender was introduced to replace
the horse drawn pumps.
Until that time, appliances were pulled by horse and every manned station had stables and full-time staff employed to care for the animals.
Within nine months, every horse drawn device in Glasgow had been phased out.
The horses - Paddy and Kelvin - were the last to work in the fire service in the city.
